Sherbrooke Show and Shine Still Growing

The numbers are in and the 8th annual Sherbrooke Show and Shine was successful. Held at Sherbrooke Village Sept. 7-8, the event hosted 238 cars from across the Maritimes, a 17 per cent increase over 2001.

Paid attendance was also up and community participation was at its highest. Various community groups generated revenue from food concessions and yard sale booths during the two-day show. Local businesses reported high sales and all accommodations within 60 kilometres were booked on Saturday night.

Based on 2001 spending by exhibitors, with just under 200 cars registered, the direct economic impact of the 2002 show is estimated at $30,000. This figure doesn't include the contribution to the local economy made by the more than 1,500 people who paid to see the car show. Local community groups also benefitted to the tune more than $7,000 in food sales, yard sales, ticket draws and a silent auction.

Organizers are already planning next year's event and hope to build on this year's success.
