Route 303 Open House in Digby County

An open house will be held at Digby municipal council chambers Thursday, Sept. 12, to discuss a proposed study of Route 303, which connects Highway 101 to the Digby ferry terminal.

The province and the Municipality of the District of Digby have hired Atlantic Road and Traffic Management of Halifax to complete the study. The final report, due by the end of the year, will recommend approaches for ensuring that Route 303 remains a safe and convenient corridor for local and through traffic.

"Long-term planning is essential when it comes to effective road management," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Route 303 is important to the economy of southwestern Nova Scotia and an important connector for international trade and tourism. We want to make sure that local concerns are addressed and included in this important study."

The study will address issues such as increasing traffic, changing land use in the area, the mix of local and through traffic and the potential economic and environmental impacts of any proposed improvement strategies. The open house will give local residents an opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can participate in the process.

The public meeting will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., in municipal council chambers, 12548 Highway 217, Seabrook, Digby Co.
