Premier John Hamm and U.S. Consul General Steven Kashkett hosted a ceremony today commemorating the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
During the ceremony, Premier Hamm expressed Nova Scotians' sympathy to the families and friends of those lost during the terrorist attacks.

The premier also praised the people of Nova Scotia for their generous response in the days and weeks following last year's events.
"During a very difficult time, our people came forward with generosity and outstanding support," said Premier Hamm. "They not only eased the situation for our visitors, they did it with warmth, compassion and in the spirit of friendship."

At the ceremony, Mr. Kashkett presented the people of Nova Scotia with a plaque to express the United States' gratitude for post- Sept. 11 assistance.
"The government and people of the United States will not forget that Nova Scotians opened their hearts and their homes to us in our hour of need," said Mr. Kashkett.
The ceremony was held at the international arrivals hall at Halifax International Airport.
