Black Bull Resources Receives Conditional Approval for Quartz Mine

The Department of Environment and Labour today approved an application from Black Bull Resources Inc. of Vancouver to develop a quartz mine in Flintstone Rock, Yarmouth Co.

Under the terms of the approval, Black Bull Resources will have to develop an environmental effects monitoring program, monitor water levels and quality and establish a community liaison committee to review mining operations, among other things.

The approval also requires the company to suspend operations if it discovers an archaeological site or artifact in the course of its operations.

In addition to the environmental assessment approval, the company will have to submit industrial applications that outline operational details. The company will also need to obtain a mining permit and leases from the Department of Natural Resources.

The complete environmental assessment approval, including the company's original application, will be available on the Department of Environment and Labour Web site, at www.gov.ns.ca/enla/ess/ea/ .

Formed in 1989, the Environmental Assessment Branch is responsible for assessing major projects to identify, correct or prevent adverse environmental impacts. A guide to the environmental approval process is also available on the department's Web site.
