Sherbrooke Announces Fall Concert Schedule

This year's Sherbrooke Village Courthouse Concerts are showing no sign of cooling off any time soon but they're moving to another day for the fall season. The regular concerts, which are presented on Thursdays during the summer, switch to Saturdays beginning Sept. 7.

On that date, long-time musical friends George Brothers and J.P. and Patrick Ellis will reunite for a fourth consecutive year to present an evening of swing, vintage country and roots music in celebration of the Sherbrooke Show and Shine.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Antigonish County musician Brian Pottie will record his concert to produce a live CD of Celtic, traditional and folk music.

Sept. 21 will mark the return of Gary Langley and friends with an evening of country and gospel music.

On Sept. 28, Mike Porter and friends will perform a mixture of folk, pop, blues and roots music, both new and familiar.

Oct. 5 marks the first of two successive benefit concerts, this one in support of Sherbrooke Village Development Society, featuring various musical friends of Sherbrooke Village. On Saturday, Oct. 12, area folk, gospel, traditional and country musicians gather to share their musical talents in aid of the St. Mary's food bank in the annual Sherbrooke Shares Benefit Concert.

The Tuesday night Courthouse Ceilidhs with Troy MacGillivray and friends, have been extended for a further two weeks by popular demand. The ceilidhs have attracted solid numbers in their initial five-week run, proving popular with local and visiting audiences. Mr. MacGillivray, one of the rising stars in the East Coast celtic music scene was able to find time in his schedule to perform on Sept. 10 and 17, with the possibility of one further ceilidh just before heading off to take part in the Celtic Colours International Festival.

All courthouse concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the Saturday night concerts are $6 in advance and $9 at the door and admission to the ceilidhs is $7 in advance and $9 at the door.
