Labour Day Message

On Monday, Sept. 2, Nova Scotians will recognize all working people in the province as they have since 1894, by joining all Canadians to celebrate Labour Day.

"The history of Labour Day in Canada is almost as long as the history of Canada itself," said Environment and Labour Minister David Morse. "As we enjoy the last long weekend of the summer, we should take a moment to acknowledge the contributions of Nova Scotia's workforce toward our much-envied quality of life."

Mr. Morse expressed pride in his department for working closely with employees and employers in developing a climate where work can be done safely and efficiently.

"Over the years there have been many changes in the work environment -- changes that are continuing at an even more rapid pace today," said Mr. Morse. "Fortunately, Nova Scotia workers are educated, flexible, motivated and well able to meet the requirements of the modern workplace."

The minister noted that Nova Scotia workers are helping the province become one of the best places in Canada to work, run a business and raise a family.

"Our history shows that the workers of Nova Scotia are up to such a challenge," said Mr. Morse.

He said the Department of Environment and Labour looks forward to continuing to play its part in helping Nova Scotians to develop healthy, safe and productive workplaces.
