More than 200 antique, classic and customized automobiles from all over the Maritimes are expected to take part in the Sherbrooke Show and Shine. Sherbrooke Village's annual event takes place this year on Sept. 7 and 8.

In past years, the Show and Shine has attracted cars from as far away as Seattle, Wash., as well as cars from Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Nova Scotia.

Prizes will be awarded in 12 categories: best '50s car; best '50s truck; best antique; best street rod; best '60s car, best '60s truck; special interest; best '70s car; best import; best '70s truck; best original and best local entry.

The car show runs on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will also be music at this year's Show and Shine. George Brothers and J.P. and Patrick Ellis will mark over a quarter- century of musical friendship with a concert of country and swing music at the courthouse on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Following the concert there will be a '50s and '60s dance at the Lion's Hall with recorded music.

On Sunday at 2 p.m., J.P. and Patrick Ellis, Steve Brown and George Brothers will perform rock and roll hits of the '50s, '60s and early '70s, as George and the Jive-Tones.

The annual Sherbrooke and Area Community Yard Sale will also take place during the weekend, allowing visitors and participants to do some bargain hunting while attending the Sherbrooke Show and Shine. Also new this year is a silent auction featuring merchandise valued at up to $250. A portion of the proceeds from this auction will go towards supporting the purchase of a guide dog for an area resident.

Admission to the Show and Shine is free for participating auto owners and $2.50 for adults, $2 for children and $6 for families.
