SPORT/RECREATION COMMISSION--Nova Scotia Beach Supervision Ends Aug. 25
The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) will ends beach supervision for 2002 on Sunday, Aug. 25. Once again, lifeguards throughout the province have enjoyed an exceptional year, with no drownings at supervised beaches during hours of operation.
"We are truly blessed not to have had a drowning on our supervised beaches during hours of operation since 1972," said NSLS director Paul D'Eon. "It speaks highly of the quality of our staff and their dedication to safety."
The service employs 60 lifeguards across the province, many of whom are university and high school students. Mr. D'Eon reminds beach goers who continue enjoying the province's beaches to respect the sea and to swim with care.
Supervision ends on Sunday on the following beaches:
Halifax Regional Municipality:
- Lawrencetown Beach
- Rainbow Haven Beach
- Queensland Beach
- Dollar Lake Beach
Pictou County:
- Melmerby Beach
Cumberland County:
- Heather Beach
Lunenburg County:
- Risser's Beach
Yarmouth County:
- Lake Ellenwood Beach
- Lake Milo Beach
Digby County:
- Mavillette Beach
Inverness County:
- Inverness Beach
- Port Hood Beach
Cape Breton Regional Municipality:
- Dominion Beach
- Mira Gut Beach
- Indian Beach
Aylesford Lake Beach, Kings Co., will be supervised until Sunday, Sept. 3.
