Proposals Called for Onshore Exploration
The Nova Scotia Department of Energy has issued a call for proposals to explore for onshore oil and gas on about 400,000 hectares of land in central Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.
The land available for exploration comprises two parcels -- one in the Sydney area of Cape Breton and the other in Alton, near Truro, in central Nova Scotia. The parcels are being offered as a result of interest shown by oil and gas companies.
The Department of Energy will accept bids until Sept. 24. Results of the call for proposals will be announced within 90 days of the closing date. Successful proponents are selected based upon the best work proposal to assess the petroleum potential of the area. Exploration agreements are awarded for an initial three-year period.
