Sherbrooke Living History Program to Expand
Sherbrooke Village Living History Day Camps offer two days of adventure during July and August for children aged nine and older.
Participants experience historic village life in a natural and authentic setting. They wear 19th-century costumes and play a role in woodworking and making pottery, candles and butter. They relive the stories of over 25 historic buildings, enjoy demonstrations of 19th-century skills, a horse drawn wagon-ride, street theatre and animations. During the nature walk, they can visit the water-powered sawmill, lumber camp and gold stamp mill while learning about the flora and fauna of Nova Scotia.
This summer, Sherbrooke Village is expanding its summer Living History Program to include two-day Thursday-and-Friday day camps as well as Saturday-only camps. In previous years, the day camps were offered only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A grant from Young Canada Works has allowed the village to hire a program assistant to help develop and deliver the enhanced programming.
The day camp program is administered by staff experienced in historical and educational programming for young people. They can also provide information on the modern facilities of the Sherbrooke area.
The two-day camps cost $35 per participant and the single-day camp costs $25. Family discounts of $5 per day are available for three or more siblings. Each day camp begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation each way. While overnight accommodations are the responsibility of parents or guardians, Sherbrooke Village can help with arrangements through local accommodations or campgrounds.
Reservations in this program and more information are available by calling, toll-free, 1-888-SHER-VIL (1-888-743-7845), at least one week before the days you would like to participate. All day camps are subject to minimum registration: Sherbrooke Village reserves the right to cancel or postpone any day camps because of insufficient registration with 48 hours' notice.
