TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Paving Begins on Tyndal Road, Cumberland County
Work on a highway improvement project on Route 366 near Amherst is scheduled to begin the week of July 8.
Tyndal Road will undergo piping, ditching, gravelling and repaving starting at Trunk 4 and extending easterly for eight kilometres. Lane closures will be necessary once paving starts. Traffic control will be provided by traffic control persons and a pilot vehicle.
Motorists are urged to use extra care and caution when they travel through the project area. They should be mindful of not only their own safety but also the safety of employees on the job site.
The contract for this work was awarded to Chapman Brothers Construction Ltd. of Souris, P.E.I. on a tender bid of $1.63 million. The project is expected to be completed in August.
This year, the department's capital budget for road improvements is $85.5 million, an increase of $32 million over the previous year. It is the third straight year the capital portion of the roads budget has increased.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from four district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
