TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Highway 104 to be Repaved, Cumberland County

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron Russell today announced a tender call to repave 8.1 kilometres of the Trans- Canada Highway near Amherst, Cumberland Co. The project will cost about $2 million.

"This is a significant improvement to one of the most travelled highways in Nova Scotia," said Mr. Russell. "It's one of the largest repaving projects in our capital program this summer, and shows our commitment to investing in roads that support economic development and tourism in Nova Scotia."

The project calls for repaving 8.1 kilometres of the westbound lanes of Highway 104, from the Fenwick Road overpass to Exit 4 at South Albion Street.

Contractors have until July 18 to submit bids. The work is expected to be completed by Oct. 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from four district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
