4-H Members Travel to Western Canada

Five Nova Scotia 4-H members have won travel awards and are visiting Canada's western provinces as part of the 40th annual Royal Bank of Canada 4-H Interprovincial Exchange.

Over the next two weeks, 4-H members from across the country will visit other provinces to exchange ideas and information about agriculture with other rural youth.

"These types of programs are a great opportunity for Canada's youth to learn about agriculture across the country," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "I am confident that Nova Scotia's 4-H members will be excellent ambassadors for our program and for Nova Scotia."

The Nova Scotia delegates winning this travel award were selected through an interview process and because of their extensive contributions to the 4-H program and community. Mark Robinson of Aylesford, Kings Co., is travelling to Alberta. Brent Jackson of Antigonish will be hosted in Ontario. Tracey Seamon, Port Howe, Cumberland Co., won the travel award to British Columbia. Bridget Gillis of Scotsville, Inverness Co., will travel to Manitoba. And Ashley Wentzell of Springfield, Annapolis Co., will go to Saskatchewan.

"We are pleased that after 40 years the Royal Bank continues to be a strong supporter of 4-H and this travel program," said Elizabeth Crouse, manager of 4-H and Rural Organizations. "With this program, 4-H members have been able to learn about agriculture in other parts of Canada and to meet fellow Canadians."

In August, five 4-H members from western Canada will visit the Nova Scotia delegates and their families to experience Maritime hospitality.
