Sherbrooke Village Hosts Day After Stanfest
Canadian folksinger Valdy returns to the Day After Stanfest at Sherbrooke Village on Monday, July 8, to headline the event with Ron Hynes. Valdy, Canada's international folk ambassador and Mr. Hynes -- winner of three East Coast Music Awards and writer of the east coast anthem "Sonny's Dream" -- have both performed at previous Day After Stanfest events.
The focus of the day will be on songwriting, as in past years, but this year the entire event takes place at Sherbrooke Village. Afternoon songwriters' circles will take place at the Sherbrooke courthouse, which is widely recognized as one of the best- sounding venues on the east coast. They take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Admission to the songwriters' circles will be free with paid admission to Sherbrooke Village during the day. Those who attend the Stan Rogers Folk Festival will receive half-price admission to Sherbrooke Village for July 8 if they're wearing valid Stanfest bracelets.
In addition to the headliners, Pictou songwriter Maurice Poirier, Caledonia's Dave Fogarty, Country Harbour's Terri MacDonald and the Sherbrooke Trio will perform. The Sherbrooke Trio are also performing at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival.
The mainstage line-up will feature original music by Guysborough County writers Dave Fogarty and George Brothers and a reprise of the Sherbrooke Trios's performance of gospel music at Stanfest. Maurice Poirier will also present the Pictou County perspective on songwriting.
Each of the opening sets will be about 20 minutes. Ron Hynes will perform a 50-minute set, as will Valdy and accompanist Norm MacPherson. The evening will close with a musical tribute to Stan Rogers. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the performance centre.
Tickets for the evening concert are $12, however, a limited number of reserved tickets are available for $10. These reserved tickets will offer guaranteed seating to the evening concert even if inclement weather forces the performance indoors at the courthouse.
