Still Time to Apply for Summer Jobs

There is still time for young Nova Scotians to apply for 49 summer jobs available with the award-winning Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps.

The jobs run from July 2 to Aug. 31. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 5.

The jobs are for Nova Scotia residents aged 17-24 who enjoy working outdoors, love being part of a productive team and have an interest in our environment. All projects require educating the public.

Included in this year's list of 22 projects are stream and river restoration, waste audits and pollution prevention. Project locations are Amherst, Bear River, Dartmouth, Eskasoni, Guysborough, Halifax, Little Forks, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Mineville, Meteghan River, Nappan, New Glasgow, Oxford, Port Hawkesbury, River Denys, Sherbrooke, Stellarton, Sydney, Truro and Yarmouth.

Now in its 13th year, the Department of Environment and Labour's Youth Conservation Corps has launched many Nova Scotians into careers such as solid-waste management and environmental education. The program works with community partners -- such as community groups, businesses, government agencies, industries, institutions or environmental organizations -- to encourage environmental service projects and share the cost.

Application details are available at Access Nova Scotia centres provincewide, Human Resources Development Canada employment centres, high school, university and community college employment centres and on the Youth Conservation Corps Web site at www.gov.ns.ca/enla/ess/ycc.
