The Advisory Council on the Status of Women welcomes new and reappointed members to its ranks following their confirmation by the legislature's standing committee on human resources today, May 28.

There are four new members, each named to three-year appointments. They include Liz Chisholm, an Antigonish high school teacher; Mary Hamblin, director of the MBA program at Dalhousie University; Candy Palmater, a lawyer residing in Centre Rawdon, Hants Co.; and Nancy Vromans, a businesswoman from Brooklyn, the Region of Queens Municipality.

Members reappointed for an additional three-year term include Linda Carvery of Halifax, Patricia LeBlanc of Sydney and Doreen Paris of New Glasgow.

Jane Purves, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, said the appointed group is well-qualified.

"This is a diverse group of women, each of whom will bring a tremendous depth of experience to the advisory council," said Ms. Purves. "I look forward to a productive working relationship."
