Province To Replace Murdock's Bridge

A bridge near Tatamagouche that was struck by a van in April will be replaced.

"Murdock's Bridge is the main access route to a local lumber mill. It's also a popular transportation link for local residents," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This is just another example of the province investing in our road and bridge infrastructure. It's good news for the area and the province."

The cost to replace the bridge will be about $237,000.

The bridge was a 30-metre steel structure that spanned the Waugh River.

Department investigators believe a van driving over the bridge on April 25 struck several support beams, causing the structure to collapse.

The department will attempt to collect money from the van owner's insurance company.
