Traffic Advisory, Highway 104 Near Amherst

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Traffic Advisory, Highway 104 Near Amherst

NOTE: The original advisory transmitted at 9:35 a.m. today, May 9, indicated the incorrect time of the accident. The correct time appears below in the second paragraph.

The westbound lane of Highway 104 near Amherst is expected to re- open to traffic early this evening, May 9. A 400-metre length of the highway will be reduced to one lane.

Westbound traffic was shifted to nearby Trunk 2 after a tractor trailer went off the highway and collided with the LaPlanche Street bridge at around midnight last night. The truck caught fire and burned much of the asphalt road surface.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works expects that full repairs could take several weeks. Motorists are asked to be patient with occasional lane closures on the bridge. Inspectors will continue to assess the damage. No cost estimate is available at this time.
