Corporation and Global Television Win First Place

Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation

N.S. LIQUOR CORP.--Corporation and Global Television Win First Place

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation's "Colourful Messages" television commercial has won first place in the Public Service category of the Retail Comp Awards.

The competition, organized by the Television Bureau of Canada, helps advertisers evaluate the production of retail commercials. Consumers, rather than advertising experts, judge the commercials.

Global Television produced the commercial for the corporation as part of an advertising and social responsibility campaign that promotes the message Drinking and Driving Kills! It shows school children drawing on the corporation's brown-paper product bags. The drawings are part of a campaign against drinking and driving.

This commercial is the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation's second award for its promotion of the safe use of beverage alcohol products.

"We are extremely pleased to be recognized again with an award for our efforts to encourage our customers to drink responsibly," said Yvonne Melanson, vice-president, Merchandising Services.

The corporation's other social responsibility programs include its Don't Buy for Minors, Check 25 ID and Plan Ahead to Get Home Safe programs. As well, it supports safe graduation programs with Alcare Place, Metro Transit's Ride Free program and Blue Thunder, a police rock 'n' roll band.
