King and Queen of Norway in Nova Scotia

Premier's Office

King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway will be in Halifax and Lunenburg May 9 to 11 as part of a state visit to Canada.

"We welcome the King and Queen of Norway to Nova Scotia," said Premier John Hamm. "I know they'll receive the warm hospitality for which Nova Scotians are so well known."

On May 9, the King and Queen will tour the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. They will also tour Pier 21, where 1.5 million people entered Canada from 1928 to 1971, now a national historic site.

On May 10, the King and Queen will visit Camp Norway in Lunenburg. Camp Norway is the site of a training school for 1,400 sailors who served in the Royal Norwegian Navy in the Second World War. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the war memorial at Jubilee Square. The King and Queen will also tour the Fisheries Museum of the Alantic and the Bluenose II in Lunenburg.

This is the second Norwegian state visit to Canada. The first visit was in 1987 by King Harald's father, Olav V. Nova Scotia is the last stop on the official visit to Canada. The King and Queen will also visit Ontario and Newfoundland. They will depart from Halifax to Norway on May 11.
