Whales Your Parents Might See at Sea

The Museum of Natural History will hold a special event for military family members. Whales and Sea Creatures Your Parents Might See at Sea takes place Sunday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m.

Andrew Hebda, a zoologist at the museum, thought children would be interested to know more about the sea life that their parents might encounter on their voyage to the Arabian Gulf.

"Halifax and the Arabian Gulf are connected in the natural world because many species of sea life are the same as those that swim off our coasts," said Mr. Hebda.

Families will have a chance to tour the Marine Gallery with a naturalist and learn about sei whales and dolphins. Other highlights include opportunities to walk inside a 56-foot inflatable whale and to make an origami whale greeting card to send to their mom or dad overseas.

This event is co-ordinated by the Military Family Resource Centres of Nova Scotia, which offers programs and services that promote healthy living for military families.

Admission is free and this event is open to the general public. The Museum of Natural History is located on 1747 Summer St., Halifax.
