Royalty Visits Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia will be visited by royalty next month. King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway will be in Halifax and Lunenburg May 9
- 11 as part of a state visit to Canada.
Nova Scotia and Norway have a strong relationship that began during the Second World War, when Norway was invaded by German troops. Some of their ships sought refuge in Halifax Harbour and Norwegian sailors were brought to Lunenburg while their ships were being repaired.
"We are honoured to have the King and Queen of Norway visit the province," said Deputy Premier Ron Russell. "We are looking forward to sharing our culture and heritage with them and strengthening our ties with our Norwegian friends."
The King and Queen of Norway will visit Canada from May 6 to 11.
