Conference to Teach Ag Awareness Skills

The Nova Scotia Agricultural Awareness Committee is providing a practical training program for agricultural ambassadors during the annual Agriculture Awareness Conference. This year's session, Growing Nova Scotia, will be held March 21-22 at the Howard Johnson's Hotel and Convention Center in Truro.

"This conference promises to provide something for everyone who wants to share the story of agriculture with students and youth groups," said Ruth Grant, agriculture awareness co-ordinator with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. "The speakers have a wealth of knowledge in many areas of agriculture."

Bob Morrow is the co-ordinator of the national Agriculture in the Classroom program and former co-ordinator of Ontario Agri-Food Education. Mr. Morrow will share his experiences in working with the education system and developing agricultural resources and presentations. Part of the agenda will also include a tool box session, which provides practical hands-on activities participants can bring back to the classroom or present at fairs and exhibitions.

Other topics to be covered at the conference will include effective presentations and story telling, issues in agriculture and success stories in agriculture awareness programs.

The Nova Scotia Agriculture Awareness Committee is composed of representatives from Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Women's Institutes of Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture.
