Premier's Office Staff and Budget

Incorrect statements have been made today, March 11, regarding the staff complement and budget of the premier's office.

As indicated in a news release issued on Friday, March 8, the total staff complement in the premier's office is 12 people. This is the same number that was stated during the spring 2001 estimates process.

The total budget for the Office of the Premier for fiscal year 2001-02 is forecasted to be $749,000. This is the same figure listed in the 2001-02 estimates tabled in the spring of 2001.

Other provincial jurisdictions of similar size have more staff and larger budgets. For example, the premier's office in New Brunswick has 20 full-time staff positions, while the premier's office in Newfoundland and Labrador has 16 full-time staff positions.

On March 8, Premier Hamm indicated that the budget of his office will be cut by two per cent for fiscal year 2002-03. Nova Scotia also has the smallest cabinet in 30 years.
