PREMIER'S OFFICE--CXN--Congratulations to Nova Scotia's Team Canada
Premier John Hamm today extended congratulations to Team Canada and skip Colleen Jones for winning the Scott Tournament of Hearts.
The defending world women's curling champions successfully defended their Canadian title by defeating Saskatchewan 8-5 in Brandon, Man., on Sunday. In addition to Jones, Team Canada includes third Kim Kelly, second Mary-Anne Waye and lead Nancy Delahunt.
"Colleen Jones and her team continue to show that Nova Scotia curlers are the best in Canada and the world," said the premier. "All Nova Scotians join me in saluting Team Canada on another successful tournament."
Premier Hamm noted the historic significance of yesterday's victory. The win was Ms. Jones's fourth national women's championship as skip, a first for curling in Canada. Her team's previous victories were in 1982, 1999 and 2001.
"Colleen Jones is clearly establishing herself as one of our province's greatest athletes," concluded the premier.
Team Canada will attempt to defend their world title in Bismarck, N.D., starting April 6.
