Voluntary Unpaid Leave Available for Provincial Employees

PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION--Voluntary Unpaid Leave Available for Provincial Employees

The Nova Scotia government is extending its voluntary unpaid leave program for the upcoming March break.

"Voluntary unpaid leave allows employees who have limited or no remaining vacation entitlement to take some personal or family time during the March break," said Michael Baker, Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission. "This program is completely voluntary."

Voluntary leave can be taken at any time. Over the past three years, some 600 employees have participated in various unpaid leave options. Employees can take advantage of the program in areas where it is operationally feasible. As during the Christmas holidays, some restrictions may apply for essential services if appropriate arrangements can't be made to cover those services.

March break runs from March 10 to 16.
