Sept. 11: What Does It Mean?

Racism, immigration, civil liberties and security will be the subjects of an upcoming panel discussion titled Sept. 11: What does it mean for each of us? The session will examine each of these areas in the context of the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the United States.

Organized by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission in co- operation with Lester Pearson International at Dalhousie University, it will be held Feb. 4, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Room 105, Weldon Law School Building, Dalhousie University, 6061 University Ave., Halifax.

The panel will be moderated by Denis Stairs, McCulloch Professor in Political Science, Dalhousie University.

Panelists include: Robin Arthur, editor, Touch Base; Lee Cohen, immigration lawyer; Lynwood Peters, The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq; S/Sgt. Bob Purcell, special advisor for Criminal Operations, RCMP; Viki Samuels, co-ordinator of Race Relations and Affirmative Action, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission; Mary-Woo Sims, former chief commissioner, British Columbia Human Rights Commission; and Walter Thompson, lawyer and civil libertarian.
