Bike-Yard Wars! To Be Waged at Museum of Industry
Two teams, one pile of junk and tons of family fun. Spokes will fly when the Museum of Industry in Stellarton and Big Brothers/Big Sisters host Bike-Yard Wars!
In celebration of its feature exhibit, Bikes: The Wheel Story, the museum is planning a fun, interactive event that encourages innovative recycling of junk.
Two teams will race to design and build a bicycle from parts they scavenge from a specially assembled junk pile. A bicycle expert will assist each three-member team in design and construction. Teams will have four hours to build a mechanically sound and sturdy bicycle. After construction comes show time, when teams must race their bikes to the finish line. The team with the fastest bike will be crowned Bike-Yard Champions.
Cheering spectators, musical entertainment, face-painting, local mascots and the interactive exhibit Bikes: The Wheel Story complete the fun.
The battle for supremacy of the bike yard takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9. Admission proceeds will go to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Pictou County.
The Museum of Industry is located at 147 North Foord St., Stellarton. For more information, call 902-755-5425.
