Chestico Museum Profiles Area's Heritage and Culture
TOURISM/CULTURE--Chestico Museum Profiles Area's Heritage and Culture
Port Hood's and Chestico's cultural and natural heritage will be profiled in new outdoor interpretative panels along a section of the Trans-Canada Trail.
Inverness County's Chestico Museum is developing the panels with assistance from the Department of Tourism and Culture. The $6,759 in support comes from the department's Strategic Development Initiative Fund.
"The Chestico Museum is one of many museums we support through this investment program," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism and Culture. "Museums play an important role in this province. They not only help to preserve our heritage and culture, but they also attract visitors and teach others about the people, places and lifestyles in Nova Scotia."
"It's fantastic news for the Chestico Museum," said Susan Mallette, president of the Chestico and Museum Historical Society. "Support from the Strategic Development Initiative Fund will help us to achieve something that we have wanted to do for a long time."
The Department's $100,000 Strategic Development Initiative Fund encourages community museums to partner with organizations, such as private sector not-for-profit groups and municipal governments, to build relationships for sustainable economic development in rural Nova Scotia. Archives, heritage groups or associations, and community organizations working in partnership with Community Museum Assistance Program museums are all eligible to apply for support under this fund.
The department is responsible for delivering several other programs dedicated to Nova Scotia's rich natural and cultural heritage, as well as operating the Nova Scotia Museum family of museums across the province.
