Overnight Parking Ban in Effect

The annual winter parking restrictions take effect today, Dec. 17, in many Nova Scotia communities.

Roads maintained by the Department of Transportation and Public Works in 13 counties must be clear of vehicles between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. The ban helps winter maintenance crews respond safely and quickly in the event of a snow or ice storm.

The winter parking restrictions do not apply to larger municipalities, such as Halifax, which have their own policies.

A list of roads where the restrictions apply can be seen on the department's Web site at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/whatsnew/winter_parking_regulations.stm .

The overnight restrictions are in effect until March 31, 2002.
