Holiday Season Message, 2001

Warm greetings and best wishes to Nova Scotians at home and abroad during this joyous holiday season.

Love, joy and hope shine in our holiday songs, prayers and traditions. After the tragic events of this year, I hope more than ever that these sentiments ring true.

As we celebrate Christmas, our thoughts also turn to peace and to the soldiers, sailors and air crews who so willingly defend our way of life. Our prayers are with them all, especially those who cannot be with their families this holiday season. For these individuals, and in the spirit of the season, let us resolve to build a future where we learn to respect each other and live together in harmony.

During this busy time of year, I encourage all Nova Scotians to reflect on our blessings, cherish the love of our family and friends and share generously with those in need.

The end of a year is the perfect opportunity to look towards the future. And as I look ahead, I have no doubt the future is filled with opportunities for Nova Scotia.

My wife, Genesta, joins me in wishing all Nova Scotians a very happy holiday season and happy new year.
