Winter Safety Driving Tips
Drivers are urged to gear down and drive with caution as winter weather approaches.
To assist motorists, officials with the Department of Transportation and Public Works offer some winter safety tips, including:
- if possible, avoid driving during a storm;
- watch out for ice and black ice;
- bridge decks freeze before the surrounding roadway;
- leave early for your destination;
- prepare your vehicle for winter: check tires, windshield
wipers, windshield washer, antifreeze, heater/defroster, ice
scraper and shovel; - pass only when safe; and
- follow at a safe distance and allow for longer braking
distances.
