Province Settles Case with Former Gaming Chair

The government of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, and Ralph Fiske, former chair of the corporation, have reached a mutually agreeable settlement. As a result, all appeals to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal have been dropped.

On behalf of the province, Neil LeBlanc, minister responsible for Part I of the Nova Scotia Gaming Control Act, apologized to Mr. Fiske for the lengthy process surrounding the dispute. The minister met with Mr. Fiske today and expressed his regret for any negative impact caused to Mr. Fiske's reputation.

The two parties agreed to settle all outstanding differences with the payment of an out-of-court settlement of $450,000.

Mr. LeBlanc said it was not in the taxpayers' interest to further pursue legal action and that this settlement puts an end to the issue for both sides. Mr. LeBlanc also gave Mr. Fiske his personal best wishes for the future.
