Advisory Committee Named for Signs
The Department of Transportation and Public Works has announced a new advisory committee on highway signs.
Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, said the committee will provide advice, interpretation and recommendations on major issues associated with the implementation of the new sign regulations.
The Highway Advertising Signage Advisory Committee is made up of representatives of business, municipal government and tourism as well as the departments of Tourism and Culture and Transportation and Public Works.
"I look forward to the committee's input," said the minister. "The members will help keep our sign program current and relevant to the various groups."
The members are the following:
Jon Denman, president of Denex Group Inc., past board member of
the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) and a
board member of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business;
Keith Robicheau, chief administrative officer of the County of
Annapolis and a member of the Municipal-Provincial Roles and
Responsibilities Working Group;
Doug Fawthrop, managing director of White Point Beach Resort,
past-chair of the Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council, past
vice-president of TIANS and past-president of South Shore Tourism
Association;
Scott MacAuley, owner/operator of resorts in Cape Breton, a
member of the Tourism Partnership Council, and a resident of
Baddeck;
Kent Speiran, acting manager Traffic Engineering Services,
Department of Transportation and Public Works; and
Sharon Martin, manager of Visitor Information, Department of
Tourism and Culture.
The province's new sign program was introduced earlier this summer. It modernizes the previous regulations, which dated back to the 1960s and offers businesses and tourism operators new opportunities to advertise along roads and highways.
