Premier and MLAs Commend Royal Canadian Legions
Members of the legislature unanimously approved a resolution today saluting the Royal Canadian Legions for their leadership and dedication to community work.
The resolution, introduced by Premier John Hamm, recognized the Royal Canadian Legions' year-round effort to remind us of those who gave their lives for our freedom.
"As Royal Canadian Legions across Nova Scotia prepare for their annual Remembrance Day service, it is important that we recognize the work they do throughout the year to ensure no one forgets our veterans," said the premier.
In an effort to do its part, the Nova Scotia government has undertaken a number of initiatives to support veterans. To ensure that children value the contribution of veterans, this government has made Canadian history a requirement for graduation from high school. Last year, Highway 102 from Fall River to Truro was named the Veterans Memorial Highway. And more recently, through the House of Assembly's Veterans Affairs Committee, the government announced the launch of the postcard of thanks campaign. This campaign encourages Grade 6 students to thank veterans by sending them a postcard.
"We can never repay veterans for their sacrifice," said Premier Hamm. "But we can remember."
