LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR--Lieutenant Governor Presents Caring Canadian Award

Myra Freeman, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, will present the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award to a Nova Scotia resident. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the Aylesford and District Lions Club in Auburn, Kings Co., on Nov. 5.

The award, presented on behalf of Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, is bestowed upon individuals whose unpaid, voluntary contributions provide extraordinary help or care to people in the community. Recipients have usually served their community for a number of years and have not been previously recognized with a national or provincial honour.

Award winner Daisy Idelle Ward of Aylesford, Kings Co., is being honoured for having diligently served her community, particularly its young people, for more than 60 years. Throughout her life and her career as a teacher, Ms. Ward has continued to provide leadership to many community and youth groups. Groups that have benefitted from her dedication include the Harmony-Nicholsville 4-H Club, the Western Kings Community Fair, the Children's Aid Society and Canadian Red Cross Youth.

The Caring Canadian Award consists of a certificate and a lapel pin. The award symbol represents Canadians who selflessly give of their time and energy to others. The maple leaf symbolizes the people of Canada and their spirit.
