Legislature Honours Volunteers and Victims of Sept. 11
PREMIER'S OFFICE--Legislature Honours Volunteers and Victims of Sept. 11
Today, members of the Nova Scotia legislature unanimously approved a resolution commending all Nova Scotians for their acts of kindness and compassion after the September 11th attacks.
The resolution, introduced by Premier John Hamm, recognized citizens for the way they answered the call for help without a moment's hesitation.
"Nova Scotians rallied in the hours and days that followed the September 11th tragedy," said Premier Hamm. "They showed the world how quickly the people of this province step forward to ease the difficulties of others."
Over the past seven weeks, Nova Scotians have given in every way possible. They stood in line for hours to donate blood, worked around the clock at shelters, and opened their houses to strangers.
Nova Scotians have embraced this as an opportunity to learn about the Islamic faith and have lent their strength to the husbands, wives and children of the nearly 1,000 Canadian Forces personnel on route to the Arabian Sea.
"As a Nova Scotian and as premier, I can think of only one word that describes what I am feeling as we reflect on our province's response to the events of September 11th," said Premier Hamm. "That word is pride."
