Premier to Recognize Resident's Charitable Efforts

PREMIER'S OFFICE--Premier to Recognize Resident's Charitable Efforts

Premier John Hamm will use part of his visit this week to Shelburne County to recognize a local resident's efforts on behalf of people affected by the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

Bonnie Shand of Cape Sable Island has spent the weeks since Sept. 11 raising funds for victims by selling home-made red, white and blue ribbons pinned together with the Canadian flag. As of last weekend, Ms. Shand has raised more than $18,000.

"Bonnie's generosity and caring nature is typical of the spirit of Shelburne County and, indeed, of all Nova Scotians," said the premier. "As premier, I am delighted that I have the opportunity to personally thank her for her hard work."

Premier Hamm will present Ms. Shand with a certificate of recognition on behalf of the province. The ceremony will take place at a reception at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Old School House in Barrington, Shelburne Co.
