Benefit Performances End Concert Season
The 2001 Sherbrooke Courthouse Concert series winds down with the presentation of two benefit concerts. The first is in aid of the Historic Sherbrooke Village Development Society on Oct. 6, and the second, on Oct. 13, is in support of the St. Mary's Food Bank.
The Oct. 6 concert will feature Nova Scotia's pre-eminent folklorist/performer and Sherbrooke's own Clary Croft, along with guests George Brothers, Jean Cook and Lisa Hallett. This is the third such benefit performance consecutive for Croft, who was an inaugural recipient of the Sir John Coape Sherbrooke Heritage Award, and is an honourary director of the Development Society.
The fourth annual Sherbrooke Shares concert, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 13, will showcase a stellar line-up of performers who have been featured at Sherbrooke Village over the past several seasons. Among the performers confirmed are Arden Boutilier, Rollie Burton and Bob MacDonald, Alana Hayne, Terri MacDonald, Mike Porter and Maurice Poirier.
Concert organizer George Brothers is expecting these final two concerts to be among the highlights of the season.
"These have traditionally been two of the better-attended events in our season," said Brothers. "We hope and expect that they will attract large audiences. The causes are both worthy of support, and the performances will appeal to many."
