Minimum Wage Increases

Nova Scotia's minimum wage is going up today.

The rate will rise 10 cents to $5.80 an hour. This is the third of three yearly rate increases of 10 cents that started in 1999.

The minimum wage for inexperienced workers is also increasing by 10 cents an hour to $5.35 an hour. Inexperienced workers have less than three months' experience doing the type of work they are hired to do.

The changes affect about 18,000 Nova Scotians who are employees under the Labour Standards Code.
