Classic Cars and Classic Music at Sherbrooke Show and Shine


On Sept. 8 and 9, Sherbrooke Village will partner with the St. Mary's Tourism Association to once again host the 7th annual Sherbrooke Show & Shine.

Over 200 antique, classic and customized automobiles from all over the Maritimes are expected to participate in the show, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9.

In past years the Show & Shine has attracted cars from as far away as Washington State, as well as from Cape Breton, New Brunswick, P.E.I. and the rest of mainland Nova Scotia. This year organizers have added a sales component to the show, with a number of auto parts and craft outlets expected to take part in the event.

Special prizes for show participants include a set of wheels, a chrome dress up kit, and weekend accommodations packages.

Prizes will be awarded in 12 categories including: best 50s car; best 50s truck; best antique; best street rod; best 60s car; best 60s truck; special interest; best 70s car; best import; best 70s truck; best original and best local entry.

A new feature at this year's Show & Shine will be the RCMP Race Against Drugs. The Race Against Drugs consists of a large-scale model race car track and a drug awareness display, which will be set up adjacent to the Sherbrooke Village parking lot.

There will also be music at this year's Show & Shine. George Brothers, and JP & Patrick Ellis will perform country and swing music at a concert at the Sherbrooke Village Courthouse on Sept.8 at 7:30 p.m.

Following the concert there will be a 50s & 60s dance at the Sherbrooke Village Lion's Hall with recorded music.

On Sept. 9, JP and Patrick Ellis, Steve Brown and George Brothers will combine to form George and the Jive-Tones. They will perform 50s, 60s, and 70s rock hits at the Sherbrooke Performance Centre at 2 p.m.

Admission to the Show & Shine is free for participating auto owners, $2.50 for adults, $2 for children and $6 for families.
