Antigonish Annex and Amalgamation Hearing Date Set

UTILITY/REVIEW BOARD--Antigonish Annex and Amalgamation Hearing Date Set

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board will hold a hearing at St. Ninian Place in Antigonish on Sept. 6, beginning at 11 a.m.

It is the first step in a two-step process to consider two applications: one by the Town of Antigonish to annex a portion of the county and one by the Municipality of the County of Antigonish to amalgamate the town and municipality. The board has consolidated the two applications and will consider the merits of both together.

The board will use the Sept. 6 hearing to determine what studies and other information it needs to render a decision. It will not hear evidence or argument on the merits of either application at that session. The board will also set a date for the public hearing.

At the second hearing, the board will hear the details of the proposed annexation and the proposed amalgamation. In an evening session, members of the public will have an opportunity to express their views about the proposed annexation or the proposed amalgamation. The date for the second hearing will be advertised in the newspaper.
