Diversity Specialist to Present in Halifax

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION--Diversity Specialist to Present in Halifax

Diversity strategist Trevor Wilson will discuss how Nova Scotian businesses can capitalize on the province's diverse and changing population at a luncheon on Tuesday, July 17, at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel in Halifax.

Mr. Wilson is the founder and president of TWI Inc. He counts among his clients some of the world's largest and most progressive employers, including Ernst and Young, Shell Oil, and South African Breweries.

"Demographic shifts will ultimately affect the way Canadian organizations function," said Mr. Wilson. "There are consequences of ignoring this shift that could greatly impact your organization's bottom line."

He is also the author of Diversity at Work: A Business Case for Equity and will soon release Global Diversity at Work, which has been endorsed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Mr. Wilson says that organizations should strive for a more diverse and equitable workforce not because they have to comply with legislation and not to feel warm and fuzzy inside, but because it makes good business sense.

The presentation and luncheon are being organized by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and supported by Crossley Carpet Mills Ltd. In 2000, the Commission extended a Human Rights Award to Crossley Carpet Mills for their initiation of a workplace rights program within their organization.

The luncheon will take place between noon and 2 p.m. at the Westin Hotel. The cost is $30 and seating is limited.
