4-H Exchange members Experience Canada

The Nova Scotia 4-H program will send five of its members to other provinces and will host five youths from other provinces as part of the 39th annual Royal Bank of Canada 4-H Interprovincial Exchange.

Beginning Wednesday, July 4, members from across Canada will visit other parts of Canada, exchanging ideas and information about agriculture with other rural youth.

"This exchange program is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to learn about the 4-H programs in other parts of Canada," said Elizabeth Crouse, manager of 4-H and Rural Organizations for the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. "Our members will be excellent ambassadors for both our 4-H program and the province of Nova Scotia."

The Nova Scotia delegates were selected through an interview process based on their contributions to the 4-H program and their community.

Luke Simone of New Germany will travel to Alberta. Daniel Rankin of Mabou will travel to Manitoba.

Matthew Davison of Newport will travel to Ontario. Sarah Harris of Deep Brook, Annapolis Co., will travel to Quebec.

Naomi Crawford of Nine Mile River will travel to Saskatchewan.

The sponsor, the Royal Bank of Canada, is hosting 4-H travel delegates from the four Atlantic provinces at a banquet today, Tuesday, in Halifax.

While the Nova Scotia delegates visit other provinces, five 4-H families in Nova Scotia will host 4-H members from Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

The visitors will tour Province House, the Halifax Citadel and the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro. They will stay at host homes in the western part of the province for the first week and then in the eastern part for the last week. While at their host homes, they will have the opportunity to attend local 4-H events and learn about the communities.
