Nova Scotia U-Pick/U-Fish Web Site Launched
AGRICULTURE/FISHERIES--Nova Scotia U-Pick/U-Fish Web Site Launched
Just in time for Nova Scotia’s U-pick and U-fish season, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has launched an on-line directory promoting 42 U-pick and U-fish operations around the province.
"This Web site directory is a valuable tool for everyone," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "It’s helpful to individual operators, tourists and residents and rural communities."
Visitors to the Web site will be able to:
- search by commodity (for example strawberries, apples, rainbow trout)
- search by Nova Scotia counties
- find travel directions
- determine other amenities on site
- find tourist attractions in the local area
- learn recipes and health information
"This will be the first time Nova Scotians and tourists will be able to go to one directory to plan their U-pick or U-fish summer activities," said Elinor Maher, project co-ordinator. "We hope it will encourage other provincial operators to contact us with their information to place on the Web site."
Due to the unpredictable nature of crops and their growing seasons, the Web site encourages people to call ahead to check on picking conditions and hours of operation.
