Atlantic Eastern Breeders Showcase

Seventy 4-H members from Atlantic Canada are participating in the annual Eastern Breeders 4-H Showcase from Sunday to Tuesday, June 24-26, at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro.

The members will learn large-animal management and show-preparation practices from leaders in the industry.

Although organized by 4-H staff with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, the training event has been sponsored by Eastern Breeders Inc. for the past 12 years. Along with financial assistance, EBI has knowledgeable staff to ensure 4-H members learn the most current techniques in clipping, showing and herd management.

4-H members will learn the finer points of show preparation on Sunday and Monday, after which, they will prepare their animals for the beef and dairy show at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the MacMillan Show Centre at the Exhibition Grounds in Truro. Awards will be presented to the winners in each class. The public is welcome to attend the cattle show to see first-hand the skills of these young leaders.

Learning good management practices at an early age will ensure that these future farmers apply them to their family farms. With this type of training, young farmers from across Atlantic Canada will continue to be leaders in agriculture.
