SPORT/RECREATION--Commission Appoints Highland Regional Representative

Gerard MacIsaac of Pictou has been appointed the Highland Region’s representative for the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission. Based in Antigonish, Mr. MacIsaac will begin in his new role July 3. The appointment was announced by Tony Martin, deputy head and CEO of the commission.

"Gerard will be an excellent addition to the commission’s staff," said Mr. Martin. "Sport and recreation in the Highland Region will only benefit from his knowledge, enthusiasm and sense of fairness. We look forward to his joining the team."

For more than 24 years, Mr. MacIsaac has worked delivering sport and recreation services and programs. He spent five years in the Baffin Region of the North West Territories, eventually returning to Pictou as recreation co-ordinator. From 1997 to the present, Mr. MacIsaac served as director of the Department of Recreation, Tourism and Culture in the town of Pictou.

Rodney MacDonald, Minister of the Sport and Recreation Commission, welcomed Mr. MacIsaac to his new post.

"Regional representatives play an important role in working with communities to deliver the commission’s services and programs," said Mr. MacDonald. "Gerard MacIsaac brings considerable experience, skill and energy to this role in the Highland Region.

"Mr. MacIsaac believes in building on community strengths and assets. He is well-known and well-respected in the Highland Region and in the recreation community across the province. "

The Highland Region includes the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough and Pictou, and is one of six Sport and Recreation Commission regions in the province.
