Export Awards to be Held May 23

The 17th Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards will honour seven Nova Scotia companies and one individual for their accomplishments on Wednesday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m., in the Casino Nova Scotia, Halifax.

The awards salute Nova Scotia companies for their exporting performance during the year 2000.

Nova Scotia’s exports reached a record high last year, increasing 34 per cent over 1999, with goods valued at more than $5 billion being shipped throughout the world.

The private sector plays a significant role in the awards program, with eight award categories sponsored by Nova Scotian corporations. In addition, the federal government’s Export Development Corp. will present the Global Opportunity Award, which pairs a small exporting company with an MBA student for a summer work term.

Major partners of the awards include the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Nova Scotia Economic Development, through the Canada/Nova Scotia COOPERATION Agreement on Economic Diversification; as well as the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and the International Trade Centre.

Nova Scotia entertainer Bill Carr will be the guest speaker.
