53 People Working with Nature
Your parents say, get a job. You say, where? The Department of Environment and Labour says, the Youth Conservation Corps.
If you are a Nova Scotia resident aged 17 to 24 and looking for a great work experience in the environmental industry, the Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps has just the job for you!
"People and Nature. Working" is the theme for the Youth Corps, which will hire 53 summer students for 22 communities across the province. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 25.
Now in its 12th year, the corps has launched dozens of young Nova Scotians into careers in solid waste management and environmental consulting, while helping communities carry out great environmental projects.
"Year after year, the crews in the Youth Conservation Corps and their community sponsors say what a great win-win experience this is," said David Morse, Minister of Environment and Labour, who is responsible for the corps.
"It''s a good wage, a great work experience and a step up on a future career. How can you lose?" he said.
The province is contributing about $132,000 to this year''s program. Community and other government partners will provide additional funding.
This year, projects suggested by community partners will take place during July and August in Amherst; Arichat; Bridgewater; Cape Sable Island; Cornwallis; Halifax; Kemptown; Lakevale, Antigonish Co.; Lansdowne, Pictou Co; Londonderry, Colchester Co.; Lower Sackville; Mahone Bay; Margaree Forks; Metaghan River; Mineville, near Dartmouth; Nappan, Cumberland Co.; New Glasgow; River Denys; Shubenacadie; Sydney; Truro; and Yarmouth.
