EDUCATION–Legislature Expresses Sorrow Over Bus Crash
The Nova Scotia Legislature observed a minute of silence today for four students from Oak Hill Middle School in Newton, Mass., killed when their bus left the highway near Sussex, N.B., early in the day.
Education Minister Jane Purves read a statement to the legislature expressing sorrow over the tragedy.
The minister said the American students were to attend a music festival at Mount St. Vincent University this weekend. They were to be hosted by students and staff of Gaetz Brook Junior High in Halifax Regional Municipality.
The minister said the Gaetz Brook students were guests of Oak Hill Middle School last year.
Ms. Purves said the Halifax Regional School Board has sent a crisis management team to Gaetz Brook Junior High.
